United Methodist Committee on Relief
UMCOR is the relief agency of our denomination. Through offerings received by local congregations, the UMC is able to immediately respond to natural and man-made disasters locally and around the world. 100% of donations go to the designated cause. Overhead costs are paid for out of the apportionment local churches give.
Via de Cristo
Via de Cristo is a Spanish phrase meaning “Way of Christ.” Via de Cristo is a highly structured three-day weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people and bring them to a new awareness of living in God’s grace. It is a combined effort of lay people and clergy toward renewal of the church. Like Cursillo, Tres Dias, and the Walk to Emmaus, Via de Cristo puts on separate weekends for men and women. The goal is to raise up committed disciples to serve Christ through their local congregation. To attend, you must be sponsored by someone from the Via de Cristo community. Contact the church office for more information on sponsorship.
The Upper Room
The Upper Room is an ecumenical ministry focused on spiritual development of Christians, and produces many wonderful materials, including The Upper Room Daily Devotional. You can also receive complementary daily devotions via email or an app on your smart phone. The Upper Room also sponsors retreats and spiritual renewal movements such as The Walk to Emmaus and The Academy for Spiritual Formation. If you need someone to pray with you by phone, the Upper Room provides a toll-free number 1-800-251-2468 (available 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. Central Time). There will be someone to pray with you about your concern. The Upper Room is administered by the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship.
Cokesbury is the online Christian bookstore of the United Methodist Church, and is a great source of Christian books, devotionals, curriculum, and church supplies. Any profits Cokesbury makes are returned to the UMC to be applied toward the cost of providing pension for clergy.
